Nocycling and showers.

Another in the life on the move series…this one is about trash/recycle and showers.

• Nocycling – At our Longmont home we have a trash can, a recycle bin and a compost bin.  Our recycle fills up much quicker than the trash.  But out here on the road our trash fills up really quick.  We do not have a recycle bin in the trailer (a) because we don’t really have room for it and (b) even if we did, we have not really seen any receptacles that accept recycling.  Recycling doesn’t seem very popular here in the south.  I feel guilty throwing all this cardboard, glass, cans and plastic away but haven’t thought of a good solution yet.
• Shower tours – I’m not going to tell you how I have to shower less while living on the road because even at our sticks and bricks house I do not shower every day.  I apologize if you think that is gross…I’m pretty certain it is not gross.  We have a tiny little shower in the fifth wheel and have often not had sewer hook ups.  So that shower has been for the girls to use.  Us guys pack up our stuff and head to the shower house.  This has given us the opportunity to tour many shower facilities.  I’m quite ok with a shared shower facility (not shared at the same time of course….zoiks!).  Sure, sometimes they can be skanky and they may have no hot water…but on this trip we’ve had pretty nice facilities.  They’ve always been pretty clean, good pressure and hot water.  The boys like it too, because unlike at home, they get to take pretty long showers.  And they are learning the fine points of scoping out the cleanest showers with the most hooks and the best shower heads (and how to adjust the ones that allow for it).  Typical routine is the boys get started while I shave…then once I start my shower they know they have about 5 minutes.  I know, I know, I’m letting them have crazy long showers…but they don’t fight while they are in there!  Three of the places we have stayed only had one shower…so then we have to set the timer.  But they don’t want me to start the timer until they get in the water…”I’m still waiting for the water to get hot Papa so don’t start it yet”.  Yeah right.  You want to know what the best part is?  I don’t have to clean the shower!
