McWane Science Center

When we walked in the center we saw THE BED OF NAILS!!!!! Caden went first, I would’ve gone first but I wanted to see his expression. The science is, your weight balances out on each nail. For example, you weigh 100 lbs and you are on 50 nails, only 2 lbs of your body is on each nail, like an elephant. An elephant has feet about 10 square inches and weighs 1 ton, each square inch on the foot would be holding only 50 lbs.

What's the point?

Another really cool thing was a computer that showed videos of explosions, falling structures, plants growing, flames etc. The best part was you could control the speed. I don’t know what the science was, I just thought it was kinda cool.

One of my favorite things was THE ANTI-GRAVITY MIRROR!!!!! It is super cheesy but hilarious. This simple trick is used in Star Wars. I don’t want to give away the secret, but try to figure it out. I made a mistake in the picture.

Floating

There was also a reactions test that when a light flashed once you had to press the stop button. The best score was .141 seconds after the light flashed. The science is actually very simple. Your brain is like a gyro sensor, meaning your eyes see something, send a picture to your brain, your brain has to process it, then tell your body to do what it needs to do, and then do it.

Fastest reflexes

I also really liked the ball launcher. With the ball launcher you dropped a bowling ball and all of the trapped air could only go through another tube and launch a tennis ball.

The sound tape measure. No! The sound tape measure does not measure sound. But it does measure your height. It works just like a bat uses echolocation. It can see how long it took for the sound waves to bounce back and do some calculations to convert time to distance. COOL! Right?

My favorite is MIND BALL!!!!! In this hard, stressful game, it is very peaceful and quiet…. chirp, chirp…. How to play Mind Ball: put on the black head band, Player 1 presses the button, stay very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very calm. On the wall there are three TVs showing how calm each player is in comparison on 3 different graphs.

Whoever relaxes more, wins
