Cool pool

It was so stinking hot that we thought a dip in a pool would be nice.  I had found a shop that could give the Beast an oil change just a mile or so from public pool in Glasgow.  So, we packed a lunch and headed to the metropolis of Glasgow KY about 20 minutes from our campground.  I dropped Steph and the kids at the pool then went on to BR Tire and Service.  I’d picked this shop because (a) they were the only shop that answered their phone and (b) they had a time slot available.  This place was pretty rough…I am not their usual customer.  I think they pretty much only deal with fleet vehicles and semi-tractors at that.  The Beast was by far the smallest truck in there.  But they seem to know what they are doing so I asked where the lounge was so I could work while I waited.

“Uh, we don’t got no lounge fer customers….but yoo kin sit in our break room if ya want!”

I took him up on the offer and settled in to do some work.

I think I took a few years off my life while sitting in that 2nd hand smoke soaked break room.  At one point the shop manager came in to eat. He was nice and liked chatting with me.  I had a really hard time understanding him due to his Kentucky drawl and the blaring TV.  He was watching some show with people caught on camera injuring themselves.  I think he’d seen the episode before…

” Oh man, yoo gotta check this out….he’s a gonna fall right off that there table!”

With the Beast all taken care of it was off to the Ship It store to get my quarterly tax coupons printed out.  Are they called coupons?  If so it’s a dumb name…I don’t really feel like I’m getting any sort of discount.  Anyhow, I got those printed out and checks mailed off to the state and the IRS.  As I dropped those envelopes in the mail I said a little prayer of thanksgiving.  You see, there were many times last fall when I was not sure if this trip was really financially possible….between buying a 5th wheel and a truck followed by truck problems and compounded by the uncertainty of what the journey ahead would entail financially.  Also, as a contractor, I never know when work might just vanish.  So, the fact that I was able to write those checks at all felt a bit like a miracle.

I met up with the rest of the family at the pool and after a quick bite of lunch I jumped in the pool!
Jump

It was so refreshing on such a hot day.  We threw the ball back and forth and did tricks off the diving board.  The kids got otter pops to try to fend off the heat and we closed the place down (it closes at 4:00….sorta early if you ask me).  We got some groceries and then headed home for the evening.

We all showered up and the kids and I played outside till it was dark.  They played on the swing set with some other campground kids, we threw the frisbee and we caught fire flies.  It was a good summer day.
