Our first guests

When I first heard about families that travel full time it didn’t take long to locate them on the internet.  It seems many of them are kind enough to document their adventure online via a blog.  Many were like ours where they are simply journaling for personal posterity and maybe a few curious friends and family members living vicariously through their blog.  These provided inspiration but not really any instruction or information.  Others seemed to start down the path of providing more valuable content for newbies but the posts got few and far between before they just stopped altogether.  But there are some that have stood the test of time and are still putting out regular content that is useful for the community.  A few of my faves are Gone with the Wynns, RV Geeks and Ditching Suburbia.

I don’t recall the first time I contacted Ditching Suburbia (it was back when they were under a different name) but I got a reply right back that was genuine and helpful.  I continued to bounce questions off them and they were always quick to reply with honest advise honed on their many years of experience fulltiming as a family.

And so when we were in Austin it so happened that they had plans to be there as well and so we met up at our camp site in McKinney Falls State Park with them.  We had lunch together.  We chatted.  We went for a walk down to the falls.  The time flew by but it was great to finally get to meet them and to thank them in person for all of their help and their encouragement…they have been a blessing to us and I’m sure to many others in the community.

I’ll mention another blog, dareyou2move, that was more the journaling type but was interesting to us because (a) they had a family of 5 and (b) were only doing a finite stint of fulltiming.  This family was also super willing to offer up advise and answer questions.  AND, now that they live in Colorado,  we got to meet them last Easter and spend an afternoon together!

So, while we are not by any means pros, we’d love to pass on the love and offer up encouragement and/or answer questions if YOU are thinking of trying the nomadic lifestyle!  You can use our contact page to send us a message or comment below.

I am really enjoying your blog! I have read many of the other blogs that you listed. The Wynns crack me up! It is great to record your adventure for your family, but it is a gift to others to put this information out there. I already have a “must see” list that I have started due to your travels! Hopefully someday we will get to do a long trip like you all. To date the longest has been 3 weeks.

Thanks for paying it forward – we’ll revolutionalize this country yet!
