{"id":960,"date":"2016-03-06T20:58:31","date_gmt":"2016-03-06T20:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=960"},"modified":"2016-03-13T11:57:43","modified_gmt":"2016-03-13T11:57:43","slug":"jesus-in-a-delorean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/03\/06\/jesus-in-a-delorean\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus in a DeLorean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another Sunday in the south was coming up so we started looking for churches in the area. \u00a0If you are Baptist you have plenty of choices! \u00a0And it seems like they all have Sunday School at 9:30 (sometimes 9:45) and worship at 11:00&#8230;which makes it easy to plan your Sunday no matter where you are! \u00a0But we wanted to try something a little bit different. \u00a0Once again, the churchs&#8217; presence on the web was almost non-existent. \u00a0But there was a Methodist church just a few miles away that had a web page that informed us that there was a contemporary service at 10:30. \u00a0Bingo&#8230;.that&#8217;ll work for us!<br \/>\n<a title=\"Church\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/136797225@N05\/25288883940\/in\/album-72157663163836203\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1596\/25288883940_9f1f239286_n.jpg\" alt=\"Church\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On arrival there were lots of people milling about outside and a table with some pastries&#8230;the kids loved this church already. \u00a0We were overdressed a bit and a couple people commented on the boys&#8217; ties which led to us explaining we are from out of town. \u00a0Once again people were very welcoming and friendly. \u00a0Once we got in and situated the music began. \u00a0Drums, lead electric, rhythm electric and bass plus about 5 singers. \u00a0Let&#8217;s get some contemporary worship on!!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nContemporary: belonging to or occurring in the present\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?<\/em>&#8230;late 90&#8217;s early 2000 maybe. \u00a0Hrmmm&#8230;.Not what I had in mind for contemporary. \u00a0But I like the song and I love the singing part of worship, so I belted it out for God to hear. \u00a0The singers had a confidence monitor so it was good to see their eyes. \u00a0There was a young girl, maybe 14 or so, who clearly knew the lyrics well and was looking at and connecting with people instead of staring at the monitor. \u00a0She&#8217;ll be up front leading the congregation some day very soon I hope! \u00a0The band struggled but we all sang out and filled the room with worship.<\/p>\n<p>At one point the worship leader asked if there any first time visitors. \u00a0Now, being in worship leading circles I&#8217;ve heard the debates on this question. \u00a0You want to know who the visitors are so you can welcome them&#8230;but at the same time, this can be off-putting to those who like to just blend in. But the five of us are not shy and raised our hands&#8230;I think we were the only ones. \u00a0She looked right at us and gave us a very sincere welcome. \u00a0During the meet and greet time lots of people came over and gave very warm and genuine welcomes, &#8220;Hi, I&#8217;m so-and-so, we are sooo glad to have you. \u00a0Where are you from? \u00a0What brings you here?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The preacher man gets up there and&#8230;.wait a minute, I know that guy&#8230;he&#8217;s the drummer!! \u00a0Yup the preacher and the drummer are the same guy! \u00a0They are in a series in\u00a0John relating to\u00a0light. \u00a0Today he was talking about the seven\u00a0<em>I Am<\/em> statements. \u00a0He reminded us of the importance of the number seven and how it is associated with completeness&#8230;including the 7 holes in our head. \u00a0I thought that was funny except he didn&#8217;t finish it off by saying something like, &#8220;that is proof that God made us\u00a0holey&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Why did I title this post <em>Jesus in A DeLorean<\/em>?
