{"id":789,"date":"2016-02-22T20:12:26","date_gmt":"2016-02-22T20:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=789"},"modified":"2016-02-26T15:12:11","modified_gmt":"2016-02-26T15:12:11","slug":"one-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/02\/22\/one-month\/","title":{"rendered":"One month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wow&#8230;its been a month since we <a href=\"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/01\/22\/splash\/\">began this adventure<\/a>. \u00a0In some ways it feels like its been a long time but in other ways it seems like time has flown by.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few interesting statistics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7 states (including CO)<\/li>\n<li>13\u00a0campgrounds<\/li>\n<li>4\u00a0Jr. Ranger badges<\/li>\n<li>13 state\/national parks\/historic sites<\/li>\n<li>3,911\u00a0miles driven<\/li>\n<li>6 beaches<\/li>\n<li>18GB of metered data<\/li>\n<li>120lbs of propane<\/li>\n<li>2 caves<\/li>\n<li>1,821 photos and videos captured<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here are a few things I&#8217;ve learned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The pile of stress and worry that built up leading up to the trip dissipated much more rapidly than I imagined.<\/li>\n<li>There is a growing collection of things that we realize we don&#8217;t need. \u00a0I only brought a fraction of the\u00a0clothes from my already thinned wardrobe. \u00a0Still, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve worn half of them (yes, I where shirts and shorts more than one day and no, I won&#8217;t tell you how many).<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ve found that our\u00a0grey\/black tanks will last longer than I thought, making the higher priced full hookup sites unnecessary for stays up to 5 nights. \u00a0And dealing with tank dumping is not as hard as I thought.<\/li>\n<li>Backing up is not as hard as I thought either&#8230;just take your time and have good spotters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are some people we&#8217;ve met:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ve made new friends: Glenn and Melinda, the Boyinks and the Longneckers.<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ve met up with long time friends\/family: Tom Bemis, the Millers and Sidney<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ve been helped by: \u00a0Mr. Lopez, veteran in New Orleans, Mr. Barry, and many others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We&#8217;ve tried interesting\u00a0foods: jello shots (Steph only), gumbo, jambalaya, beignets and boiled peanuts. \u00a0We&#8217;ve seen \u00a0rivers, bayous, lakes, lagoons, bays and ocean. \u00a0We&#8217;ve had challenges, frustrations, excitement and amazing experiences.<\/p>\n<p>My only wish is that we could slow down. \u00a0I&#8217;d like to be able to spend longer at each place.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Heavenly Father, wow, wow, wow! \u00a0What an amazing corner of earth you created. \u00a0As I see different trees, plants, insects, birds, lizards, people, beaches, shells, sand, dirt, water formations, stars, clouds, sun rises and sun sets&#8230;.I am amazed by your off-the-charts creativity! \u00a0Thank you for the opportunity to explore your creation and meet new people. \u00a0Thank you for my adventurous Stephanie and these 3 awesome kids who each bring something unique to each experience. \u00a0And thank you for continued safety&#8230;for the army of angels I feel certain are surrounding and protecting us. \u00a0Amen<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wow&#8230;its been a month since we began this adventure. \u00a0In some ways it feels like its been a long time but in other ways it seems like time has flown by.
