{"id":763,"date":"2016-02-20T12:24:41","date_gmt":"2016-02-20T12:24:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=763"},"modified":"2016-02-24T03:07:13","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T03:07:13","slug":"water-powered-truck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/02\/20\/water-powered-truck\/","title":{"rendered":"Water powered truck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was getting an intermittent \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/02\/19\/the-millers\/\">&#8220;water in fuel&#8221; message<\/a> in the truck and had a check engine light on so I headed to Mobile on Saturday morning to try to get it looked at. \u00a0I went to the GMC service center and got there right as they opened. \u00a0Thankfully they were able to get me right in.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Check engine light was a bad glow plug #5 and was totally unrelated to the &#8220;water in fuel&#8221; message. \u00a0They did not have glow plugs in stock so they just cleared the code for now. \u00a0They recommended changing the fuel filter and once they took it off they found a small crack in the WIF (water in fuel) sensor that connects underneath the filter so they recommended installing a new WIF sensor as well. \u00a0They found some rust particles in the filter so they think I picked up some bad diesel somewhere along the way. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t a lot so the WIF sensor was just barely registering water which led to the intermittent behavior. \u00a0The sketchiest fuel we got was in Fort Davis&#8230;could it have been from that long ago? \u00a0I don&#8217;t know. \u00a0Luckily I was near empty on fuel anyway so we&#8217;ll just be careful to stick to high traffic\u00a0fuel stations like truck stops. \u00a0They said I should change my fuel filter more often that normal for the next couple of times.<\/p>\n<p>I looked into changing the fuel filter myself. \u00a0The most tedious part seems to be removing the inner wheel well lining. \u00a0There is an aftermarket door you can install to make it easier to change. \u00a0Or you can do like the previous owner and just cut a hole so you can reach in and change it!<\/p>\n<p>An update on my <a href=\"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/02\/12\/truck-update\/\">bad experience<\/a> at the GMC service center in New Orleans. \u00a0On a prompt from my sis I wrote a review on google about my experience. \u00a0The general manager responded within a day and also called me. \u00a0It took a few calls back and forth before we were able to talk&#8230;but he was very embarrassed by what happened and was extremely sorry. \u00a0Apparently the tech had been disciplined. \u00a0He did correct me that they had put 5 gallons of DEF in and it was $23 per 2.5 gallons&#8230;so I think I either heard wrong or the service manager said it wrong. \u00a0Anyway, that was my mistake. \u00a0So, they are 2X more expensive than retail shops not 5X like I originally believed. \u00a0Anyway, hats off to him for following up and apologizing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was getting an intermittent \u00a0&#8220;water in fuel&#8221; message in the truck and had a check engine light on so I headed to Mobile on Saturday morning to try to get it looked at. \u00a0I went to the GMC service center and got there right as they opened. \u00a0Thankfully they were able to get me [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_s2mail":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[9],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/763"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=763"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/763\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":767,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/763\/revisions\/767"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=763"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=763"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=763"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
