{"id":555,"date":"2016-02-12T01:17:37","date_gmt":"2016-02-12T01:17:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=555"},"modified":"2016-02-20T22:41:59","modified_gmt":"2016-02-20T22:41:59","slug":"life-on-the-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/02\/12\/life-on-the-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Life on the move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re still total newbies at this but here are a few observations about a life on the move.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Driving<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em>Whats up chuck<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0<em>Chucking\u00a0<\/em>is the forward to backward motion experienced due to the constant push\/pull of the truck and fifth wheel combo as you encounter undulations in the road. \u00a0This motion can make you ill (leading to possible upchucking) and makes it hard for kids to do homework in the car. \u00a0We do NOT experience any tail waging the dog motion thankfully<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Where is Waldo<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Every place we go is unfamiliar. \u00a0Street signs are all too small to read. \u00a0No matter how well prepared I think we are of our route or how confident we are in Google maps we very often find ourselves off route. \u00a0This is hard enough in the beast&#8230;.but when we&#8217;re dragging a 38 foot house behind us it just adds to the stress<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Go green&#8230;NOT<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0The beast does a fine job of pulling Ava down the road but it comes at the cost of consuming a large amount of diesel fuel. \u00a0I get pretty pumped when we do better than 11MPG.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Park it<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0The crew cab, long bed beast is&#8230;.BIG. \u00a0And finding a place to park it can be tricky. \u00a0Especially when we get into an urban area. \u00a0Usually one of us gets out to be the spotter as we thread the needle between a Mini Cooper and Smart Car. \u00a0Way more than once I&#8217;ve been very glad we did not have a dual rear wheel truck&#8230;perhaps it would help with chucking, but parking would be MUCH more difficult.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Home<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em><strong>If the house is a rockin&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>&#8230;it just means somebody moved. \u00a0When you move about the house the whole house moves. \u00a0You feel everything. \u00a0Especially kids jumping out of their bunk bed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Tanks a lot<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Or rather <em>tanks a little<\/em>. \u00a0We&#8217;ve only stayed a few nights at places with a sewer connection. \u00a0Other than that we are limited by our grey and black tank capacities. \u00a0We have always had water and electric so its not the source but the disposal of water that is limiting. \u00a0You learn little tricks. \u00a0Don&#8217;t let water run while you are lathering your hands. \u00a0Use campground showers and bathrooms when you can. \u00a0Go to the bathroom before you come home from exploring. \u00a0Ordering the washing of dirty dishes. \u00a0While waiting for water to get the temp you desire capture the water to be used later.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>High priced, limited data<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0We&#8217;ve always had unlimited data at our sticks and bricks home. \u00a0Sure there are bandwidth limitations so when you have a room full of kids playing on a Minecraft server and you and your hunny are trying to watch a movie things bog down. \u00a0But now we buy data by the gigabyte. \u00a0Its not cheap so you become aware of everything that uses data. \u00a0Videos are the #1 data user so those are pretty much banned. \u00a0But auto software updates are big, unpredictable and on mobile devices hard to disable. \u00a0These devices assume that when on a wifi connection its unlimited\u00a0data which is normally true. \u00a0But for us, its not.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Propain<\/strong><\/em>. At our stationary home we have natural gas that we pay for based on usage, but we never have to worry about running out of fuel. \u00a0But when you run on 2 bottles of propane that changes. \u00a0The first week we were in some pretty cold temps at night so we used a lot running the furnace. \u00a0Its less now, but still one of those things that you have to deal with: finding a place that refills propane bottles in an\u00a0unfamiliar place. \u00a0Its a pro-pain sometimes. \u00a0If we were going to do this longer we&#8217;d probably pop for some electric heaters to utilize the power we&#8217;re paying for at the campground.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Contents may have shifted during the <del>flight<\/del> drive<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Once we arrive and get the house all unfolded you get to see the carnage that took place. \u00a0We&#8217;re figuring it out but we still get surprised when we open a kitchen or bathroom cupboard and stuff comes spilling out.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>The door is always open<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Or closed. \u00a0Doors swinging open\/closed because not perfectly level.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Water water everywhere<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0But it always tastes different&#8230;.and sometimes bad.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I&#8217;ll probably update this as we go along but thats a quick look at life on the move.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re still total newbies at this but here are a few observations about a life on the move.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_s2mail":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[12,10,9],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/555"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=555"}],"version-history":[{"count":8,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/555\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":636,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/555\/revisions\/636"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=555"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=555"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=555"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
