{"id":329,"date":"2016-01-30T16:08:39","date_gmt":"2016-01-30T16:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=329"},"modified":"2016-02-10T13:45:38","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T13:45:38","slug":"some-more-a-caverns-at-sonora-caverns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/01\/30\/some-more-a-caverns-at-sonora-caverns\/","title":{"rendered":"Some-more-a caverns at Sonora Caverns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Say the title in your best Lawrence Welk voice. \u00a0We decided to only go as far as Sonora Caverns on our way east. \u00a0The caverns has camping for $25 a night which is a bargain compared to their ticket prices. \u00a0All the reviews said it was well worth the money. \u00a0But I looked at the reviews for my old stompin&#8217; grounds of Cave of the Winds and it said the same thing. \u00a0I never understood why people would pay THAT much money to see the cave. \u00a0Mostly I&#8217;m sure it was due to the fact that I was making less than minimum wage and that I got to see all the much cooler non commercial parts of the cave whenever I wanted. \u00a0So, was Sonora Caverns worth it? \u00a0For a day and a half at minimum wage it might be a bit much&#8230;but, it was quite spectacular! \u00a0Besides the 5 of us there was an older couple on the tour who reminded Caden of Baba and Zedo. \u00a0They were super nice and really fun to have on the tour with us. \u00a0The cave has small passageways and rooms like Cave of the Winds but warmer and MUCH wetter. \u00a0And as we got away from the entrance the formations became more and more unbelievable. \u00a0It really felt like we were inside a giant geode. \u00a0And there was a room with some of the longest soda straw stalactites I&#8217;ve ever seen&#8230;and they looked so frail next to the regular stalactites.<\/p>\n<p>I might be part troll&#8230;I love the dampness and darkness of caves&#8230;the stillness of the air&#8230;the silence&#8230;the drips&#8230;and then the blast of blinding light and dry, hot wind as you exit. \u00a0Almost feels like being born again (not that I remember the 1st time).
