{"id":2057,"date":"2016-06-29T22:04:33","date_gmt":"2016-06-29T22:04:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=2057"},"modified":"2017-01-17T20:50:54","modified_gmt":"2017-01-17T20:50:54","slug":"touchdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/06\/29\/touchdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Touchdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We got Ava packed up for the last time and hit the road at 9:15 for the very familiar drive from Phillipsburg to Longmont. \u00a0There was a detour that cost us about 30 minutes, some poorly coordinated bathroom breaks, lunch break and a stop at the Welcome to Colorful Colorado sign for a picture. \u00a0I spent a lot of the drive time exercising my memories of the trip and tried to avoid thinking about the task of moving back into our house.<br \/>\n<a title=\"Wooohooo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/136797225@N05\/27379230643\/in\/album-72157669827792141\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/c4.staticflickr.com\/8\/7302\/27379230643_c8c63b2165_n.jpg\" alt=\"Wooohooo\" width=\"304\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><!--more-->We rolled into Old Town about 4:00. \u00a0My brother came over to give us all hugs and help us move stuff out of the rig. \u00a0Mary Ellen and Liam came over to welcome us home, the Wieder&#8217;s came over, Milt and Isla stopped to say hi on their way to bike night and Camilla stayed to help us move stuff. \u00a0The Hernandez 5 helped move stuff, Graham, Riley and Luke Riddle all came over to help. \u00a0The Kregurud girls came over to welcome us back as did Jen and Lauren and a bit later Troy and Leslie came over to give welcome home hugs. \u00a0Our yard was full of kids playing&#8230;just like it&#8217;s supposed to be in the summer time. \u00a0It was awesome to see everyone and to be back in the hood&#8230;our community.<br \/>\n<a title=\"The dudes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/136797225@N05\/27379128263\/in\/album-72157669827792141\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/c8.staticflickr.com\/8\/7553\/27379128263_c47df33c78_n.jpg\" alt=\"The dudes\" width=\"320\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>But inside the house were piles of things that needed to be put away. \u00a0And there was all the stuff we didn&#8217;t take on the trip&#8230;the stuff that we lived quite comfortably without for the past 5 months. \u00a0What is even in some of those boxes? \u00a0Do we need any of the stuff that is in there? \u00a0 At least for me, I&#8217;m not opening my boxes. \u00a0If I need something I&#8217;ll pull it from the box otherwise I&#8217;m going to continue living with the same stuff I&#8217;ve had for the past 5 months. \u00a0It has served me well and I&#8217;ve never felt like I needed anything else. \u00a0Any\u00a0remaining items\u00a0in my boxes on July 4, 2017 will be jettisoned for good.<br \/>\n <a title=\"Crap\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/136797225@N05\/27379230573\/in\/album-72157669827792141\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/c6.staticflickr.com\/8\/7365\/27379230573_07d289b20d_n.jpg\" alt=\"Crap\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nGraham took care of our lawn for the past few weeks and he did a great job. \u00a0He also pulled some monstrous weeds from our raised beds. \u00a0Even with his efforts \u00a0though the yard still needs a lot of love. \u00a0Its a hard thing to come home to\u00a0that after 5 months of having some of the coolest yards in the world to enjoy and never having to weed, mow, trim, water, rake, etc. \u00a0I probably sound lazy but I&#8217;m really not afraid of hard work. \u00a0Its just I want the work to make sense and to matter. \u00a0Grass just seems so ridiculous. \u00a0In fact, way back in the day the reason rich people had lawns was because they were so ridiculously useless. \u00a0Lawns were used as a way to say &#8220;we have so much cash that we can waste this fertile land we have by growing this useless crop and then pay someone to cut it down and throw it out.&#8221;
