{"id":1933,"date":"2016-06-11T22:18:58","date_gmt":"2016-06-11T22:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=1933"},"modified":"2016-06-18T11:40:43","modified_gmt":"2016-06-18T11:40:43","slug":"heat-chicken-and-fireflies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/06\/11\/heat-chicken-and-fireflies\/","title":{"rendered":"Heat, chicken and fireflies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whoooooa nelly its hot and humid here in West Virginia and the forecast for the Mammoth Cave area in Kentucky is more of\u00a0the same. \u00a0The trailer has a pretty good AC unit in it so it keeps us comfortable. \u00a0Today we were driving from Jim&#8217;s campground to Singing Hillls campground just outside of Mammoth cave national park so the Beast&#8217;s AC would keep us cool. \u00a0The drive was pretty uneventful. \u00a0We stopped along the way and treated ourselves to a Subway sandwich and the coolness of the restaurant (the AC in Ava only works when we have shore power&#8230;so it was hot at lunch time).<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->We arrived at Singing Hills campground mid afternoon and got set up and the kids went over to the office to pick out a movie. \u00a0First place we&#8217;ve seen that has movies you can borrow! \u00a0The movie they chose was <em>Chicken Run<\/em>. \u00a0You ever see it? \u00a0Pretty funny movie. \u00a0Its about some chickens who plot their escape from the farm because they know they will become chicken pot pies otherwise. \u00a0Some of the chickens were content to stay on the farm where they were fed and protected and such. \u00a0But the one chicken wants freedom&#8230;she wants to know what else is out there&#8230;she wants the adventure of the unknown. \u00a0I hope the kids got a bit of a taste of what&#8217;s out there and the adventures of the unknown during our travels&#8230;I hope it sparked in them a lifelong love of travel.<\/p>\n<p>Steph made a yummy dinner&#8230;chicken!! \u00a0We enjoyed our meal outside even though it was a bit hot and humid.<br \/>\n<a title=\"Feast\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/136797225@N05\/27619156212\/in\/album-72157668928713360\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/c5.staticflickr.com\/8\/7426\/27619156212_d6c254012b_n.jpg\" alt=\"Feast\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>After dinner the kids were playing in the large grassy area they had there at the campground. \u00a0There was a horseshoe pit that the boys played with and Brielle gave frisbee lessons to the little girl in the camper next to ours.<br \/>\n <a title=\"Catch it\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/136797225@N05\/27441708700\/in\/album-72157668928713360\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/c5.staticflickr.com\/8\/7640\/27441708700_9f82d3fff3_n.jpg\" alt=\"Catch it\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nAs the sun set and the sky darkened Dacen and I pulled up a sky map to identify some of the bright specks we saw in the sky. \u00a0Jupiter was one and Mars the other. \u00a0Then there were some moving stars&#8230;huh? \u00a0What?
