{"id":1303,"date":"2016-04-01T22:49:24","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T22:49:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=1303"},"modified":"2016-04-10T11:24:28","modified_gmt":"2016-04-10T11:24:28","slug":"birthday-in-the-hammock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/04\/01\/birthday-in-the-hammock\/","title":{"rendered":"Birthday in the hammock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All my life I\u00a0thought there was only one definition of the word hammock. \u00a0But I&#8217;ve come to find out there are two:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>1: a swinging couch or bed usually made of netting or canvas and slung by cords from supports at each end<\/p>\n<p>2: a fertile area in the southern United States and especially Florida that is usually higher than its surroundings and that is characterized by hardwood vegetation and deep humus-rich soil<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We learned about hardwood hammocks back in the <a href=\"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/03\/25\/ever-been-to-the-everglades\/\">Everglades <\/a>and we were now staying at the Manatee Hammock campground in Titusville FL.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Site 75\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/136797225@N05\/26107861302\/in\/album-72157666589827441\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1652\/26107861302_9b0b3cebdb_n.jpg\" alt=\"Site 75\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We stumbled upon this campground online and it seemed too good to be true: \u00a0full hookups, free WiFi, pool, and its the closest campground to Kennedy Space Center all for $25 per night plus tax! This is another county park and just like Larry and Penny Thompson park we loved this one right away. \u00a0We originally planned to stay 2 nights just to get a full day at Kennedy Space Center. \u00a0But Brielle wanted to stay another day so her birthday was not a travel day. \u00a0So we tacked on an extra day (had to move sites which was a bummer&#8230;BUT it was a much better site) and spent the day celebrating Brielle&#8217;s birthday and just relaxing.<\/p>\n<p>After pancakes and a couple April fool&#8217;s day pranks Brielle opened her gifts and cards from everyone. \u00a0Later she got to do a video chat with her school mates back home and they sang her happy birthday. \u00a0Her cousins sent her a party package that had decorations, fun candy and three cans of silly string \u00a0for her and her brothers to have a silly string fight with. \u00a0Dacen and Steph took a quick trip to a nearby park to look for gators. \u00a0They came up empty but saw lots of birds&#8230;and one branch that looked like a bird. \u00a0We played at the pool, had birthday brownies, enjoyed some down time, and watched a movie. It was nice to have a day to relax and unwind from a full day at Kennedy Space Center yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Happy birthday my dear sweet Brielle. \u00a0You are a true gift from God and I am so happy and
