{"id":1254,"date":"2016-03-28T20:55:47","date_gmt":"2016-03-28T20:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/?p=1254"},"modified":"2016-04-07T03:42:56","modified_gmt":"2016-04-07T03:42:56","slug":"snorkeling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/03\/28\/snorkeling\/","title":{"rendered":"Snorkeling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a land lubber. \u00a0Born and raised in CO. \u00a0I took just enough swimming lessons as a kid\u00a0to make sure I could save my own life if I ever fell into some water. \u00a0Water activities are not my favorite especially when they involve putting my face in the water. \u00a0I first snorkeled in high school in Belize, then on our honeymoon in Cancun. \u00a0 It was amazing but it just stressed me out. \u00a0This\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thewachs.com\/wachsacrossamerica\/2016\/03\/27\/easter-sunday-at-the-bay\/\">Easter <\/a>we got snorkeling gear from the Easter bunny and we were just a short drive from Key Largo so we set off for a day trip to snorkel at John Pennekamp state park.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This was the kids&#8217; first time snorkeling so I was very careful not to let my apprehension show to the kids. \u00a0We found a spot on the beach donned our gear and started wading out into the water. \u00a0I stuck my face in and set out floating across the water. \u00a0I actually did pretty good this time and actually found myself relaxing and enjoying the experience. \u00a0The water was not very deep at all and the sea life was not spectacular. \u00a0But, it was still amazingly full of creatures given how many people use this beach. \u00a0Poor Dacen still wasn&#8217;t feeling very good so he did not stay at it for very long. \u00a0Brielle stayed really close to me and freaked out a couple times (once she thought she saw a jelly fish, the other time she saw a crab). \u00a0But she kept snorkeling and getting a little more brave each time we went on a little circuit of the area. \u00a0Caden was a natural. \u00a0He loved it immediately and other than a short break for lunch he snorkeled the whole day.<\/p>\n<p>The snorkeling itself is much better in Belize and Cancun. \u00a0However, this day of snorkeling was way better than my other experiences. \u00a0Every few minutes I&#8217;d lift my eyes from the ocean floor to look at my kids floating in the water around me and pointing to different creatures&#8230;THAT was amazing!!
